LOCAL HOME-DELIVERED MEALS PROGRAM NOW UNDER
EASTERN AREA COMMUNITY MINISTRIES
Local seniors continue to receive meals prepared by Masterson’s Catering
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eastern Area Community Ministries (EACM) adds feeding seniors facing food insecurity to the list of services to help people in need during the holiday season and beyond. Beginning on December 1, EACM will deliver affordably priced meals to seniors and adults with disabilities in the Louisville area. Meals are prepared by Masterson’s Catering and delivered by caring volunteers.
Kentucky has the highest rate of food insecurity among older adults, according to Feeding America. The Home Delivered Meals Program was managed by SeniorCare Experts (SCE) for more than 47 years. However, as a result of COVID-19 economic pressures, SeniorCare Experts is closing as an independent agency.
“We are excited to continue this very important program in our community”, said Carrie Gerard, EACM’s Executive Director. “Two of SCE’s staff will be joining EACM as this will help with the continuity of the program. The meals clients and volunteers will be working with the same devoted staff.”
“It was important to us to find the right agency to carry on the legacy of SCE’s Home Delivered Meals Program, said Patty Dissell, SCE Executive Director, “We couldn’t bear the thought of telling our seniors that we couldn’t bring them food anymore. SCE donors should know that EACM is the right choice for the meals program. They are very mission minded and we know they will shepherd this program and care for these seniors for generations to come.”
SeniorCare Experts’ 120 caring volunteers will follow the program. “The volunteers are fantastic! They provide a wellness check on the senior adult every time they deliver the meal. They are excited to continue the Home Delivered Meals Program under the EACM umbrella as they will get to continue serving these seniors”, added Dissell.
